INREACH

Fellowship  Committee This committee develops and plans activities that promote Christian community among all members of Christ & Grace Church. The committee has charge of various ministries including:

Greeters/Newcomers: Our greeters offer assistance at our Sunday worship services and provide newcomers with information about our worship and fellowship activities.  We help to make each new person or family at Christ & Grace feel welcome and offer the opportunity to participate in the church community in a variety of ways.

Potlucks/Big Breakfasts/Receptions/Family Events:  Potlucks are held the first Wednesday night in each month, and Big Breakfasts are held the second Sunday each month from September to May.  Special receptions for our Bishop’s Visit for Confirmation and Special Recognition Events vary from year to year.  Family events such as the Christmas Pageant, Easter Egg Hunt, movie nights, field trips (baseball games, trips to Chanco, etc.) are planned throughout the year.

Yard Sale/Workday: One Saturday each spring we have a church-wide yard sale in our parking lot to encourage parishioners to de-clutter their homes. Also, one Sunday following worship services, we gather to do housekeeping jobs around the church.  Our Fellowship Committee provides lunch for this event.

Lay Shepherds  This group of volunteers assists the clergy by providing visits to parishioners who are homebound in private homes as well as retirement and nursing homes.  Flower baskets, greeting cards and notes are also an essential part of our ministry.  Arrangements for transportation for doctors’ appointments can be made through this ministry.  Serving in this ministry provides an opportunity to share the caring spirit we have for one another. Meetings are held quarterly, and phone updates are provided in the interim.

Celebration of Life Committee  Volunteers minister to families and friends after the death of a loved one by providing and serving refreshments after a funeral.

Parish Nurse Ministry  This ministry involves caring for the whole person -- body, mind, and spirit -- by combining knowledge of nursing skills with an understanding of the spiritual and religious beliefs that underlie health. The parish nurse uses a public health model to balance the themes of wellness (health promotion, disease prevention) with healing (treating disease, recovery, chronic illness, and death).  The focus is on the well-being of parishioners and the parish as a whole, as well as being present at times of sickness and dying.  The role includes functioning as a Health Educator, Health and Human Resource Counselor or Referral Agent, Health Advocate, Interfaith Agent, and Spiritual Caregiver.

Health Ministry This ministry involves both clergy and lay people who are able to participate in the health ministry of the congregation.  Health ministry is a living witness of the healing activity of God through the local congregation. It encourages whole-person health through integration of body, mind and spirit, increased self-knowledge, personal responsibility, and interdependence among God’s people.  This ministry is led and coordinated by the parish nurse but includes those with diverse interests and resources in serving their fellow parishioners.

EPISCOPAL CHURCH WOMEN  All women of Christ & Grace are included as members of the ECW.  The ECW offers monthly morning and evening group meetings.  A yearly luncheon is held in January with a short business meeting and program. The ECW is responsible for the United Thank Offering and offers opportunities for service in projects that aid our parish as well as the local and world communities.

Stewardship Committee   A principal function of this committee is to conduct the annual pledge campaign, which encourages parishioners to pledge a percentage of their income to Christ & Grace and to work toward tithing. Stewardship is a way of life that reflects a thankful response to and a respectful use of God's bounty.

WORSHIP: Volunteer Opportunities

Ushers   The ushers are often the first impression that people receive of Christ & Grace Church.  They try to maintain a warm atmosphere of welcome and orderliness within the church during worship services.  Ushers welcome and seat worshippers, collect the offering and direct the flow of parishioners during worship services.

Lay Readers and Chalice Bearers  Serving as a lay reader and chalice bearer is a uniquely rewarding ministry that is open to the men and women of Christ & Grace Church.  They read scriptures at Sunday services, bear the chalice, lead the Creed and Prayers of the People, and serve Holy Eucharist to those who cannot come to church.  A two-part training session that includes church history and serving instructions is required before participating in this ministry.  Lay readers and chalice bearers are licensed by the Bishop for three years.

Acolytes   Our acolytes are confirmed teen volunteers who help carry out the liturgy of the worship service.  Our worship services are enhanced by their assistance in lighting candles; carrying the cross, torches and flags; presenting the alms basins; and serving our priest as needed in his preparation of the Holy Eucharist.   Our senior acolytes also serve as youth lay readers at the 10:30 a.m. service.

Altar Guild  The Altar Guild takes charge of vesting the altar for services and has the responsibility of preparing and caring for the flowers on the altar, polishing the brass and silver and laundering the altar linens.  All of these duties are divided into areas of duties and then assigned to member teams which serve on a rotating basis.
